Terms of service
Draft updated
These terms describe the Cast service and its content rules. The linked content policy explains reports, restrictions and appeals.
EU launch draft — not yet in force. These pages include proposed procedures and identify details and controls that we must confirm before publication.
The service and operator
Daniel McKenzie operates Cast as a UK sole trader. Cast helps you find and listen to podcasts. Cast+ adds the paid features shown at purchase. Podcast publishers control their own feeds and availability. AI answers can be wrong; check important claims against the episode and reliable sources.
The privacy policy explains personal-data use. It is not a request for blanket consent. The data policy explains storage and deletion. These terms and the content reports and appeals policy describe our content restrictions and review process together.
Using Cast
- Keep your sign-in details secure and use only accounts and private feeds you are entitled to access.
- Do not use Cast to share illegal material, infringe copyright or privacy rights, threaten or harass someone, commit fraud, distribute malware or interfere with the service.
- Do not bypass access controls or use automated requests to disrupt the service. Legitimate reports, criticism and appeals do not breach these rules merely because we disagree with them.
- Only submit material you have the right to use for the feature you request. Access to a podcast does not itself grant a right to republish its audio or transcript.
Content checks and restrictions
We consider reports and legal orders under our content policy. We may correct or remove material within Cast, limit access or suspend an account where a specific legal duty or a serious breach justifies it. We consider the evidence, severity, context and rights of the people affected. Restrictions must be fair and proportionate.
A person reviews reports and appeals. Technical controls can reject invalid requests, enforce access and usage limits, or prevent abuse. AI providers may decline some requests through their own safety controls. Those responses are distinct from a Cast decision to remove a podcast or suspend an account. The content policy explains decision notices, the role of automated tools and how to challenge a restriction.
Before this draft takes effect: we must complete the inventory of moderation tools and confirm that the published description matches their actual use. We must also test removal, restoration and the steps that stop removed material returning through a cache or feed refresh.
How recommendations work
Cast uses interests, follows, saved episodes, listening activity and feedback to rank suggestions. It also considers show similarity, genre match, listening patterns across users, popularity, charts, language, recent activity and how often you have seen a suggestion. Show similarity and genre match carry strong weight in the current ranking; other signals and filters can change the order. Some views use different ranking rules or fallback suggestions.
Following shows, changing interests and giving more-or-fewer or like-or-dislike feedback affects future suggestions. The app does not currently offer a single switch that turns all personalised ranking off. Ordinary ranking is distinct from limiting content for a legal or terms breach.
Podcasts may contain ads inserted by their publishers or hosts. Those providers control those ads. Before adding paid placement or ads of its own, Cast must review the applicable disclosure, targeting and consent rules.
Cast+ and ending use
The App Store purchase screen states the price, billing period and any trial. Manage renewal through Apple's subscription settings. Deleting the app or account does not cancel renewal. The refund policy explains refunds, cancellation and restoring access.
You can stop using Cast and request account deletion. Ending use does not remove your rights to an explanation, appeal, data request or remedy under consumer law. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liability that the law does not allow us to exclude.
Changes and complaints
We will tell users about significant changes through the app or another suitable direct channel and state when they take effect. Posting new text alone is not notice of a significant change. Changes will not remove rights you already have under mandatory law.
Email danny@usecast.app about the service. Use the content policy for content reports or appeals and the privacy policy for data rights. You keep any right to complain to a regulator or seek a court remedy.
